• Sheet/laminated copper brushes use tangential contact as at A
• Wire and mesh/gauze brushes use an inclined contact as at B
• Carbon brushes are placed radially as at C when in box holders
• Carbon brushes are inclined opposite to the direction of rotation as at D when used with reaction holders
