David Lloyd Vitty (24 April 1974 in Hong Kong) appears on The Chris Moyles Show on BBC Radio 1 under the name Comedy Dave. He is described by Moyles as the 'director of comedy' for the show. He is a former public schoolboy, having been educated at Bedford School[citation needed].
[edit] Background
Vitty fell into his role by accident - he studied Radio Production at college, but never had any ambitions to be 'on air'. He began working as a 'tech op' for Radio 1 on 5 December 1996. In 1998, he then met Chris Moyles - the two clicked and Moyles invited Vitty to work with him on his early morning show. When Moyles transferred to drive time in 1998, Vitty went with him and assumed the name "Comedy Dave". He was previously known as "Super Dave" until comedian Lee Hurst sarcastically stated he should be known as Comedy Dave.
Vitty played at the Glastonbury festival 2005 along with friend and co-worker Dominic Byrne, in the guise of the folk-inspired musical group, "Folk Face". Vitty played percussion, and Byrne guitar. As of September 2006 they claim to have three songs, all inspired by certain ABBA songs. They also played a specially re-written version of "Celebration" by Kool and the Gang for Chris Moyles' 32nd birthday.
Vitty supports Everton F.C. with a passion and has a season ticket at Goodison Park, although born in Hong Kong, spent much of his youth in Warrington, Cheshire. He married Emma Pontefract at the Tudor Barn close to Burnham Beeches on 23 August 2003. Live on air on 6 September 2006, he announced that they had split. They are now divorced. On 24 April 2007, Dave announced on air that Jayne Sharp, his television presenter girlfriend, was six months pregnant with his child. Jayne went into labour on 2 August 2007, as announced by Jo Whiley on her mid-morning show. His daughter, Nicole Catherine Vitty was born weighing 7lb 15 oz on 2 August 2007. Receiving many jibes from Chris Moyles on 24 September Vitty announced that he and Sharp were engaged. This was announced to Moyles and colleagues in a text to 'keep next year clear'.
Since 2002, he has co-presented an occasional sport-themed show on Radio 1 entitled Chappers and Dave, with The Scott Mills Show sidekick Mark Chapman.
On the 30 December, 2006 'Celebrity Couples' Edition of The Weakest Link, Chappers and Dave won, beating the Chuckle Brothers in the final round.
On 28 February 2007, Dave appeared in an edition of Ready Steady Cook, beating colleague, and fellow band member of Folk Face, Dominic Byrne. He previously presented a programme called Shed Sports 1 on Nuts TV.
In November 2007, Dave announced his controversial methods to aid charity including "not giving money to the child-beggars at Halloween" and having a bum wax for Children in Need by Aled Haydn Jones, a contestant on the BBC reality show, Celebrity Scissorhands and a producer of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show.
For Sport Relief in 2008, Chappers and Dave ran a mile at each of the 32 premier league football clubs in England and Scotland also including Wembley.
[edit] Chris Moyles Show
Vitty's regular daily contribution to the The Chris Moyles Show is the Tedious Link, a collection of loosely connected information, where one fact leads into another by way of juxtaposition, which then eventually leads into the title of a song (or the musicians responsible for it), often a "classic" or memorable tune, which is usually played at precisely 9:00am, preceded by the Radio 4-friendly Greenwich time pips. Once the song has been played he is questioned by listeners and the rest of the crew about the validity of the information given out during the Tedious Link (the theme tune from Treasure Hunt is played in the background).
Around 9:05 am, Vitty sings Let's get ready to ramble, holding onto the last syllable for a good ten to twenty seconds, in the style of Michael Buffer.
On his past two birthdays, his partner Jane called in and embarrassed Dave by calling him by his private nicknames : "Monkey Man" and "Pig Feet". She also revealed that he curled up in bed, and likened himself to a sausage roll, saying "I am the meat"
