A combo washer dryer (also known more simply as a washer-dryer in the UK) is a combination of a washing machine and a clothes dryer. Typically they will condense the water vapour produced during drying, avoiding the need for an external vent.
Combination washer dryers are popular amongst those living in smaller urban properties as they only need half the amount of space usually required for a separate washing machine and clothes dryer and do not require an external air vent. Additionally, combination washer dryers allow clothes to be washed and dried "in one go", saving time and effort from the user.
Criticisms of washer dryers are that they are not as energy efficient as separate machines. It is also commonly claimed that they are unable to dry clothes as well as a dedicated dryer and have more to go wrong. They can usually also wash a heavier load than they can dry limiting the "in one go" cycle to the drying weight limit.
