Most of this biography is taken from Appleton's Cyclopaedia of American Biography, Volume 1, pg. 693-4 which is known for some dubious entries and falsehoods. It would be better if the colonial period Spanish cronicles and histories (esp. Vivar, Marmolejo and Lobera) were the basis of this biography. Ercilla's poem speaks of this leader as a wise and venerable older man but that seems to have been a literary device for his epic. Asiaticus (talk) 19:32, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
