Columbus Tower is a skyscraper proposed to be built in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, London. The skyscraper would stand at 237 metres (778 ft) tall and would overtake One Canada Square as the tallest building in East London. The death of the main investor has led to this proposal being put on hold, although the project has not been officially cancelled, so the scheme or another similar project in the same location could be resurrected in the future.
The proposed scheme will comprise of 30,085 m² of office space (this is now likely to be residential), a 192-room hotel, 74 hotel suites, a rooftop bar and restaurant, a health and fitness club, 2,246 m² of retail and a publicly-accessible Winter Garden at the base. If built, the crown of Columbus Tower would stand 233 metres (764 ft) below, and 54 metres (177 ft) south, of the glidescope for aircraft coming in to land at the London City Airport's east runway.
The design is influenced, in part, by the naval history of the area.
