Columbus State Community College, commonly referred to as CSCC, was first established in Columbus, Ohio as Columbus Technical Institute in 1963. The college has grown from an initial enrollment of 67 students in 1963, to its current thriving campus of about 28,000 students.

[edit] Academic programs
Columbus State offers two-year career programs in more than 50 areas of business, health, public service, human service, engineering technologies, and facility maintenance as well as transfer programs for students who are interested in completing the first two years of a bachelor's degree, then transferring to a four-year university. Degree program offerings are very diverse, including fields such as Nursing, Architecture, Geographic Information Systems, and Nuclear Medicine Technology. Columbus State also offers Automotive Technology, Applied Technology, Aviation Technology, Real Estate, Law Enforcement, Fire Science, Massage Therapy, Veterinary Technology, and Respiratory Care.

The 80 acre main campus is located near downtown Columbus, Ohio. It consists of 26 buildings, including the newest facility, The Discovery Exchange (at the corner of Cleveland Avenue and Mt Vernon Avenue) which is the brand new bookstore.
In addition, Columbus State operates 10 off-campus centers in the suburban neighborhoods of Dublin, Gahanna, Westerville, Groveport, Marysville, Grandview, Grove City, Delaware, and southeast and southwest Columbus.
The college has decided to build a new 106-acre satellite campus in Liberty Township of Southern Delaware County. The first building is expected to be completed in 2010. Nearly 2,500-3,000 students will take classes at the new campus.

In 2007, Columbus State became the largest provider of higher education distance learning in the state of Ohio. Online enrollments exceeded 11,000.

Cougar News is a student-run newspaper distributed on Wednesdays during autumn, winter, and spring quarters. The newspaper focuses on campus events, sports, and local entertainment.

Columbus State annually publishes a literary magazine called Spring Street. It is comprized of poetry, fiction, phoptography and other visual arts submitted by Columbus State students, faculty, staff, and alumni. 80% of the layout and publishing process is completed by students. [1]
[edit] Athletics
The Cougars have four varsity-level sports teams. All of which compete at the NJCAA Division II level. Before the 2007-08 academic year, the college had nine sports, but due to lack of participation and expenses; baseball, softball, track and field, cross country, and soccer were eliminated. At the same time, the women's volleyball and golf teams were promoted from the division III level to their current level, and allowed to offer scholarships to student-athletes. The Cougars are members of the OCCAC, which is an athletic conference for community colleges in Ohio. In a span of three seasons (2003-2005) the volleyball program competed in three consecutive NJCAA DIII national tournaments finishing as high as fourth nationally in 2004. The cougars were paced by five all-americans during this time. In March 2008, the Columbus State men's basketball team clinched their first ever visit to the NJCAA National Championship in Danville, Il. There Columbus State won three games agianst highly ranked teams before losing to Mott Community College in the championship game on March 22. [2]
[edit] Bridgeview Golf Course
Columbus State's Bridgeview Golf Course and Center is home to the CSCC golf team. It is a nine-hole 36 Par course located on the banks of Alum Creek. "Bridgeview’s learning center offers target fairways, something not offered elsewhere in central Ohio".[3]

Though they have no formal association, Columbus State Community College and Columbus State University (GA) share the same mascot, the Cougar.
