Colin McDonald (ice hockey)

Colin McDonald, born September 30, 1984 in Wethersfield, Connecticut, is an American collegiate ice hockey player.
[edit] Playing career
Before College: Played for the New England Coyotes of the EJHL in 2002-03. Led the EJHL in scoring in 2002-03 with 58 points (28 goals, 30 assists). Was named Junior Coyote of the Year, as well as EJHL Offensive Player of the Year Award, and League MVP. Was selected MVP of the Top Prospects Tournament in 2002, as well as Hockey Night In Boston Junior Player of the Year. Chosen to the U.S. National Junior Team Evaluation Camp (August 2003). Selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2nd round of the 2003 Entry Draft, 51st overall.
College: Currently attends Providence College in Providence, RI. During his freshman year (2003-04) at Providence, McDonald led Friar freshmen with 10 goals. Named Hockey East Rookie of the Week (3/1). Earned Providence's Most Valuable Freshman Award, and was honored by Hockey East as one of the league's top newcomers, with a selection to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team. Also showed a flair for the dramatic by scoring the overtime game winner in PC's triumph over New Hampshire in the second game of the best-of-three Hockey East Quarterfinals. As a sophomore, McDonald missed time due to injury but still managed to match his point total from freshman year as he tallied a career high 11 goals, adding 5 assists. Three were game-winners, albeit not the overtime variety. Was named to the Ledyard National Bank All-Tournament Team over Christmas break after tallying a goal and assist in his return from injury. As a junior, McDonald reached career highs in points (28) and assists (19), finishing fourth on his team in scoring. Also notched seven multiple point games, including a big two goal, one assist performance in the Mayor's Cup as Providence took back the trophy from crosstown rival Brown. Served as an alternate captain during the season, and was named co-captain for 2006-07 at the end of the year.
Personal: Is a management major at Providence. His father, Gerry McDonald, played for the Hartford Whalers from 1980-1984. College Teammate of Jon Rheault.
