Coleraine Academical Institution, also known as CAI or Coleraine Inst, is an all boys voluntary grammar school in Coleraine, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
CAI was founded in 1860, and is still on its original site just off the Castlerock Road. Enrollment peaked at 1,100 in the 1970s, but currently stands at around 700. It was originally a boarding school until the department closed in 1999.[1]
The school's grounds run to the west bank of the River Bann, which facilitates a successful school rowing team. The current headmaster (as of September 2007) is Dr. David Carruthers, BSc PhD, previously the Head of Mathematics at Royal Belfast Academical Institution.
CAI is a nine times winner of the Ulster Schools Cup, the world's second oldest rugby competition. The school have competed in every year since 1876.
