Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles is a United States Coast Guard air station located at Los Angeles International Airport in Playa del Rey, California. It operates from Los Angeles to various locations including Catalina Island.

The missions of CGAS Los Angeles include search and rescue (SAR), Admiralty Law or Maritime Law enforcement, aids to navigation support (such as operating lighthouses) and marine environmental protection (such as responding oil spills). Currently CGAS Los Angeles maintains and operates 3 HH-65 Dolphin helicopters.

[edit] CGAS Los Angeles Beginnings
In the 1960's, the Coast Guard has proposed to build a new air station at Los Angeles International Airport when airport commissioners gave the green light to began construction on the north side of LAX, it will be joined in Coast Guard's 11th district.
