CMBX is a type of solution file created by SharpDevelop, which contains information on projects within that solution. A .cmbx file is analogolous to a .sln solution file in Visual Studio. .cmbx solution files are no longer the default in SharpDevelop - they have been replaced by the now-standard .sln files. However, at this time, MonoDevelop still uses these as 'super-combines' to hold projects.
