Climbing garden

In climbing, a climbing garden is usually an outcrop of rock equipped with bolts to allow a form of Rock climbing known as sport climbing. Usually the routes in a climbing garden are short and are used mainly as introductory climbs by professional climbing schools/ instructors to introduce the novice to rock climbing in a fairly safe environment.

In France you are likely to see the term Ecole d'escalade marked on 1:25 000 scale maps showing the location of this type of venue. Climbing gardens are likely to be found in both France and Switzerland as climbing garden are recognized as a way of developing tourism.
