Civic Memorial High School, is a high school for 9th to 12th grade students located in Bethalto, Illinois. It serves students from Bethalto, Meadowbrook, Cottage Hills, parts of Rosewood Heights, and parts of Moro. Moro proper attends Edwardsville High School as a result of a vote in the early 1950s. The school was originally named Bethalto High School, and the name changed to Civic Memorial when Civic Memorial Airport (now St. Louis Regional Airport) opened in 1964. The first graduating class was that of 1951. Prior to that, students attended classes through their Junior year, then finished up at another local school, usually Wood River or Roxana. The old Civic Memorial High School building at 910 Second St. (the current Trimpe Middle School) housed a 3 year high school (10th - 12th) until the 1974-75 school year, when they added 9th graders, and went to a split shift with juniors & seniors attending the AM shift, and freshmen & sophomores attending the PM shift. Civic Memorial moved into its present building at 200 School Street for the 1979-1980 school year. The current principle, Ms. Debra Pitts, is known for having the most wonderfully colorful wardrobe of any modern day high school faculty member.
