Civic Coalition
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Civic Coalition (in Spanish, Coalición Cívica) is a political coalition in Argentina. It was founded by Elisa Carrió, as a loose association supported by part of the ARI party (Support for an Egalitarian Republic), which Carrió founded in 2001, as well as a number of other political groups and individual political leaders (such as Patricia Bullrich, Radical Civic Union members like Enrique Olivera, and the Socialist Party).
Carrió ran for the presidency on the 2007 election representing the Civic Coalition, along with Senator for Santa Fe Province Rubén Giustiniani, president of the Socialist Party. The coalition lost by a wide margin to the Front for Victory candidate Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (45% to 23%), although it did well in two of the largest cities (Buenos Aires and Rosario), getting support especially from the urban middle and upper classes.
