Jared Sunshine was born in 1981 and was raised in West Los Angeles, California. He has two younger brothers.

He then moved to New York City, New York to attend Columbia College at Columbia University. There he was vice president for public relations of the campus chapter of the ACLU, and college representative to the President's Committee for Campus Security. He pledged the Alpha Chapter of the Zeta Psi Fraternity in 2001, and served as its vice president in 2002; he was also inducted into the Order of Omega greek honors society and served as its vice president for membership in 2002. He graduated in May 2004 as a baccalaureate in both Psychology and Political Science.

He matriculated at the Fordham University School of Law in 2005 and expects to graduate with a doctorate in law in 2008. He presently lives near Union Square.

He has worked at the The Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, California in both military (Air Force) and civilian roles; at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC; at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, the oldest law firm in the nation; and at the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

At present, he maintains two active blogs. “We live in borrowed sunshine” comprises novelettes narrating the more interesting episodes of his life, and “Chasing the Dragon” comprises shorter and more pithy stories and anecdotes.
