The City of Rockingham is a Local Government Area in the far southern suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth, located about 50 kilometres (31.1 mi) south of Perth's central business district. The City covers an area of 257.1 square kilometres (99.3 sq mi) and has a population of 84,307 (2006).

Rockingham Road Board was gazetted in 1897. On 1 July 1961, it became a Shire Council following changes to the Local Government Act. On 12 November 1988 it attained City status.[2]

Rockingham's sister city, Akō, is located in the Hyōgo Prefecture of Japan. "Ako Lane", located next to the Council building, is a tribute to this relationship.
