City of Bristol College is a large general further education college based in the English city of Bristol. Its main campus is located on St George's Road, near College Green and close to the city centre, with further centres spread across the city. It was formed by the merger of Brunel College with South Bristol College and subsequently also merged with Soundwell College and smaller establishments such as the College of Care and Early Years Education.
[edit] Education
City of Bristol College is a UK Further Education college for students who choose to take Diploma or A/S - A2 level courses at a college rather than remain at school sixth form. For a 16-19yr old EU student, tuition is free. Many courses are available for adults, some free, but most with a tuition charge (concessionary rates are available). There are some Higher education courses including HNDs and Foundation degrees in conjunction with universities such as the University of Plymouth, Kingston University, Bath University, Bath Spa University and the University of the West of England where students may study for a third year to turn a certificate into a degree.
As well as full time courses, there are numerous and varied part time courses, ranging from Plumbing to Computer Programming. There are also flexible study courses, such as ECDL and Clait, where student can choose the day and time to study, work at their own pace and have the support of the college tutors.
[edit] Trivia
- The buildings of the Ashley Down Campus have in the past been used as the exterior set for the BBC television series Casualty, posing as Holby City Hospital. The show used the college to act as Holby City Hospital from 1986 up until 2002, when the show relocated.
