Citrus College is a community college located in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendora, California; the Citrus Community College District which supports the school includes the communities of Glendora, Azusa, Charter Oak, Claremont, Monrovia, and Duarte. The school is the oldest public community college in Los Angeles County, California; it was founded in 1915 by educator Floyd S. Hayden. Until 1961 the school was operated by the Citrus Union High School District. As of 2006, Citrus College enrolls over 12,000 students.
According to the Public Policy Institute of California, Citrus College had 632 students who transferred to universities during the 2005-2006 academic year, ranking seventh in the area.
Citrus College students are represented by ASCC the Associated Students of Citrus College. They attend shared governance meetings and represent the 11,000 students on decisions that affect them.
[edit] Who May Attend
Citrus College, like most other California Community Colleges, maintains an open admissions policy. This means high school graduates, individuals in possession of a California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) certificate of completion or GED, any persons at least 18 years of age who may profit from instruction, or concurrently enrolled 11th and 12th grade high school students will be accepted.
Concurrently enrolled K-10 students and international students who are eligible for admission under a student visa (F-1) may also apply.
Application Procedure
There is no charge to submit an application for admission. Continuing Students (currently enrolled students) do not reapply. All prospective students apply for admission and submit their application online through WingSpan. This will begin the application process. After submitting the completed application, the individual will receive a "Welcome to Citrus College" e-mail (if an e-mail address is provided), or by letter via U.S. Postal Service, which will include important information, such as their student User ID and Personal Identification Number (PIN).
