From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ciputra (b. 1931) is an Indonesian property tycoon who owns the Ciputra Development, one of the biggest property companies in Indonesia. Ciputra was dubbed as the 30th richest Indonesian by GlobeAsia Magazine, with a total of US$35 million. He is also the 8th biggest philanthropist in Indonesia.
During 1998 Asian Financial Crisis that hit Indonesia the hardest, many bond and stock investors of Ciputra's publicly owned company suffer financially as the value of their investments plummet, resulting in some of those companies becoming insolvent. Many depositors in Bank Ciputra also lost their money as the Government of Indonesia decided to close the mismanaged bank as mandated by IMF.
