CIMB Group (MYX: 1023) is Malaysia’s second largest financial services provider which is listed on Bursa Malaysia through Bumiputra-Commerce Holdings Berhad (BCHB). In 2004, CIMB began the process of creating a strong and competitive universal bank anchored by Commerce International Merchant Bankers (CIMB), the region’s largest investment bank. CIMB Bank is the result of a merger between Bumiputra-Commerce Bank and Southern Bank with CIMB, Malaysia’s most awarded investment bank. This resulted in the creation of Malaysia's first universal bank.

CIMB Group has grown from a staff strength of 1,000 in Malaysia to 20,000 in 12 countries while it market capitalisation has increased from RM6.3 billion to RM33.0 billion. Based on the current market price as at 13 May 2008 based on market capitalisation, BCHB is the third largest behind Public Bank and Maybank. The Group’s total assets grew from RM14.7 billion to RM155 billion with a further RM18 billion being third party funds under management.

In Indonesia, CIMB banking business is offered through PT Bank Niaga tbk.It is currently the 7th largest bank in Indonesia by assets. Recent reports suggest that due to the imposition of the regulation that a singele entity are not allowed to own more than one banking licence at a time, Khazanah (Substantial shareholder of BCHB) will be merging both PT Bank Niaga and PT Bank Lippo together under the purview of BCHB
