I object to a sentence like "...star players like Jaco Pastorius." Although I'm a great fan of Pastorius', the varying styles of bass players, indeed of most all musicians, aren't conducive to such offhand comparison.

Pastorius was a "star player" in the sense that he was a soloist, bandleader and an integral part of the Weather Report. Rainey is primarily a session bassist. This is like saying the principal Second Violin in an orchestra is "not as good" as the principal First Violin. They have completely different roles. B. Polhemus (talk) 03:33, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
