Professional rock climber Chris Sharma (previously sponsored by 5.10 footwear), had left 5.10 and joined Evolv climbing footwear officially on August 1, 2006. Evolv had then decided to give Chris Sharma his own climbing shoe pro model. The line initially began with the Pontas, and later the Pontas Lace; but has now been expanded to include the newest additions of the Optimus and Optimus Prime.
- Evolv Pontas
- The Evolv Pontas is the first shoe of the Chris Sharma signature line and was released in January of 2007 to the climbing public. The shoe looks similar to that of the previous Evolv climbing shoe, the Kaos but was essentially a brand new shoe released by the footwear company. The "All - around perfromance" rooted shoe was constructed of a yellow synthetic upper, cotton inner lining, a MX-S 1.5mm 3/4 - length semi-stiff midsole, and was soled with 4.2 mm TRAX® XT-5 high friction rubber. A unique feature to the shoe was the extended rubber rand covering the big toe to enable more effective toe-hooking.
