Chris Hoy MBE (born March 23, 1976 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish track cyclist. He is a multiple world champion and Olympic Games gold and silver medal winner.

Prior to taking up track cycling, Hoy had raced BMX and competed at rowing for the Scottish junior team winning Silver in the 1993 British Championships with Grant Florence in the Coxless Pairs.

Hoy went to school at George Watson's College, an independent school in Edinburgh. He continued his studies at the University of St Andrews in 1996, before transferring to Moray House at the University of Edinburgh from where he graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science in 1999. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh in July 2005 and another from Heriot-Watt University in November 2005.

In the 2005 New Year's Honours list, Hoy was awarded an MBE for services to cycling.

On 12 May 2007, Hoy attempted to break the existing World Record for the Kilometre Time Trial. He fell just 0.005 seconds short, clocking 58.880. Although he missed the record for the kilometre, he set the new record for the 500m flying start of 24.758 seconds, more than a second quicker than the previous fastest of 25.850 seconds, set by Arnaud Duble. Hoy set the sea level kilometre record of 1 minute 0.711 seconds winning the Olympic Gold in Athens in 2004. The outright record of 58.875 seconds is held by Arnaund Tournant (France), set during 2001 at altitude in La Paz, Bolivia, where Hoy also attempted to break the record.
