Chris Finnegan (born 5 June 1944) is an English former professional boxer of Irish decent.

Finnegan was the 1966 ABA Middleweight champion. He won a gold medal in the Middleweight division at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico, the last British boxer to do so until Audley Harrison in 2000.

  • 1968 won the Olympic Gold Medal, representing Great Britain as a Middleweight. Results were:
    • Defeated Titus Simba (Tanzania) 5-0
    • Defeated Ewald Wichert (West Germany) 3-2
    • Defeated Mate Parlov (Yugoslavia) 5-0
    • Defeated Alfred Jones (United States) 4-1
    • Defeated Alexei Kisselev (Soviet Union) 3-2

Upon turning professional he moved up to Light Heavyweight and had 37 fights, the most notable being a world title challenge against Bob Foster at Wembley in 1972. Heavy favourite Foster stopped Finnegan in the 14th round; the bout was selected as Fight of the Year by Ring Magazine. He won the European and Commonwealth Light Heavyweight titles in 1971 with a defeat of Eddie Avoth and retired in 1975. His brother Kevin was also a professional boxer.
