Chongqing Changan Automobile CO Limited

The official name of Chongqing Changan Automobile CO Limited, or "重庆长安汽车股份有限公司"(simplified Chinese) is Chana Auto Co. Ltd, or simply called ChangAn, a carmaker in China. Its headquarters is located in Chongqing.

Chana was founded in Shanghai in 1862 by Li Hongzhang, who became Chinese prime minister several decades later, in the Westernization Movement of the Qing dynasty. It was called Shanghai Foreign Gun Bureau at that time and soon developed to be the first industrial group in modern China. At that time, this company mainly produced weapons. During the Second World War, the company was relocated in Chongqing to avoid being destroyed by Japanese invaders and changed the name to "21th Arsenal" in 1938. In the following years, this Arsenal was bombarded by the Japanese airforce repeately but survived.

In 1957, the first Jeep of People's Republic China was assembled in Chana, but due to some reason this vehicle type was transferred to a Beijing carmaker to manufacture.

In 1983, the vehicle manufacturing was re-introduced as new business sector.

Apr. 25, 2001, Chana and Ford established a joint-venture in Chongqing and several models are introduced into China from Ford, for example, Fiesta,Mondeo,Focus.
