[edit] Career

Choi is a natural winger well known for his great speed. He became a very promising talent from very early years, and selected by Anyang in 2000 draft right after his graduation from Bupyeong High School, which Feyenoord member Lee Chun-Soo also attended. Nevertheless, his professional career in Anyang was not as successful, playing as a wingback together with then-teammate Lee Young-Pyo. After short spells playing for Incheon and J-League side Shimizu, he joined Pohang Steelers.

Although he was one of the most well paid players in Pohang, he was not given much of a chance under Brazilian coach Sergio Farias. This was mostly because the Steelers concentrated on midfield rather than the sidelines, with a great role by playmaker André Luiz "TAVARES", and Choi usually played as a substitute. At the end of the 2007 season, he transferred to Jeonbuk in a swap deal with Kwon Jip and Kim Jung-Kyum. (Centerback Kim Seung-Geun was with Choi.)

He was part of the South Korean 2004 Olympic football team, who finished second in Group A, making it through to the next round, before being defeated by silver medal winners Paraguay. He was also a member of the 2002 World Cup Korea squad but spent most of the tournament on the bench.
