The Chodak are a fictional, non-canonical race of aliens in the Star Trek universe. The Chodak appear only in Microprose's computer games Star Trek: The Next Generation on the Super Nintendo, Star Trek: The Next Generation, A Final Unity, Star Trek: Generations (game) and Star Trek: Birth of the Federation.

The Chodak had a soft, jelly body and resembled molluscs. They used an artificial external shell to be able to move and communicate. The Chodak homeworld was Allanor, located in what is now the Romulan Neutral Zone. It was believed the Chodak existed for 900,000 years prior to existence of the Federation and the Romulan Empire but was believed they went into extinction after Allanor became an uninhabitable planet due to years of conflicts and Nuclear wars which then forced surviving Chodaks to live in underground caverns. Most of the Chodak holdings were located in what is now Romulan space, although a few sites (such as Horst III and Frigis) were located within Federation territory. The Chodak had founded a powerful empire approximately four thousand years before the founding of the Federation. Their empire collapsed when a group of rebels sabotaged the Unity Device , a massive machine with almost unlimited power, which had been used to maintain the Chodak government's power. The rebels took it into the future where they believed it would be safer as the Chodak in the modern day wouldn't be able to control the devices power or understand what it could do to the universe.

The Chodak made a reemergence in 2370 when their ships crossed the Romulan Neutral Zone and were headed to the Z'tarnis Nebula where they found that the Unity Device had returned many years before but the device caused the nebula to grow larger so that it never be discovered. All ships that went into the nebula either had no warp engines (this was mainly Romulan ships) or weapons as the device could react to any kind of threat provoked.

The only known leader of the Chodak Empire is Admiral Brodnack, master of the nine challenges and believed true controller of the Unity Device who was discovered by an away team led by Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D).

In 2371, The Chodak became involved in the assistance of producing a Trilithium weapon by making an alliance with Dr Tolian Soran who made an agreement with the Chodak to supply them with the information to create their own weapon when he found out that the planet Epsion, which was a Chodak outpost, had large amounts of Trilithium. In exchange, the Chodak would help Soran in extracting the Trilithium from the planet Star Trek: Generations (game).

[edit] Games

The Chodak first appeared in A Final Unity. Most of the plot of the game revolves around thwarting Admiral Brodnack's plans to recover the Unity Device and restore the Chodak Empire to power.

The Chodak returned in the game of Star Trek: Generations. In the game, the Chodak were allied with Dr. Tolian Soran, and the player often has to battle their ships to stop Soran.

In the game Birth of the Federation, an apparently automated Chodak warship can occasionally appear on the map, destroying any ships it encounters, equivalent to the 'Guardian' of Master of Orion

According to the canonicity rules of the Star Trek franchise, and despite appearing in 3 or 4 licensed products, the Chodak and all their history and backstory are to be considered apocryphal.
