Template talk:Chinese Language Television
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hi Kevin, could you please elaborate why my edits were reverted? The name "Mainland China" is unquestionably much better than the complicated naming "China (or Mainland)". Wikipedia has an entry for Mainland China.
Thanks! - 219.73.86.204 17:32, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- Why don't just follow the List of Chinese language television channels, use China, People's Republic of for Mainland China, and China, Republic of (Taiwan) for Taiwan.

- I think that'll be unnecessary. This is a non-political article anyways.--Jerry 18:56, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Listing Standard?
How inclusive is this list? There is pretty much one major channel from every province of China. Is this template going to listing all of them? If not, what kind of listing standard is it following? --Voidvector 23:29, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Oy vey
This template is really hideous, and looks very out of scale on most of the articles it's applied to. Is there a better way to handle this? Please? Bearcat 03:47, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- I have just proposed this page be split into "North America", "China", "Taiwan", and "Southeast Asia". --Voidvector 08:19, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

- I would, somewhat reluctantly, support the proposed split. Reluctantly since it does make sense to have all the channels in 1 place, but perhaps that can be better done through a list. That being said, I think what Voidvector did on the template (taking ETTV America out of USA since it's a subsidiary of ETTV in Taiwan) would be the wrong approach. Of course ETTV America would belong on a template of wholly North American Chinese TV stations as there won't be an ETTV parent to link back to as there is now. Wl219 02:38, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

- I removed international service channels because the same reason BBC America was not added to Template:American broadcast television. They are only American in the sense that they provide catered service in America. --Voidvector 08:53, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

- Well BBC America is not really a broadcast channel since I don't think it's available free-to-air. That being said, I think it should be on an appropriate American template under the heading of "International broadcasters available in the United States," which would also include Al-Jazeera English, EuroNews, ETTV America, CCTV-9, etc. If there's no such listing currently, I would support creating a separate template for that. It doesn't matter that they are/are not "American," what matters is that they can be watched here. Wl219 14:22, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

- Based on that stance, why don't we merge all the TV channel templates, since with modern technology, you can watch any channel anywhere. --Voidvector 23:04, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

- Well yes and no on the latter part of that statement. Sure if you cobble together enough satellite, cable, and broadband internet TV services you could watch close to every channel in the world anywhere, but I think you're missing the point. BBC America/BBC World and the like are specifically targeted at a non-British (ie, international) audience and it is thus appropriate to put them together in the kind of template I proposed. Nobody here, myself included, is talking about including, say, BBC One in that group since it's specifically target at a domestic British audience. Wl219 20:54, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

If this was split, I don't mind adding a row to the North American template for foreign access TVs. Right now, it pains me to see such a gigantic list of channels crammed into a single template. There is always the more comprehensive List of Chinese language television channels. --Voidvector 07:17, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
