Are they gay? I mean, seriously.

Seriously, as in a serious discussion? Well, let's see. In the Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers series, they were portrayed as best friends and roommates. They were both romantically interested in Gadget, and somewhat antagonistic toward each other. If they were bisexual lovers, it would have been a rocky relationship at best. There is almost certainly fanfiction that portrays them as such, but such relationships are usually not supported by the canon, or by the copyright holder. BlueNight 21:49, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

I'd go with that. Even before Rescue Rangers they were portrayed as fighting over women, or the chipmunk equivalent thereof, on occasion. I remember there was one where they both tried to woo a nightclub singer. (In an episode of Mouseterpiece Theater George Plimpton indicated they were named after the Somen "Steve" Banerjee's "Chippendale" nightclub, but that was likely a joke) Now when it comes to the Goofy Gophers being gay that's a whole other issue. There's no definite proof of that since the behaviour from their cartoons was from a time when gay still meant happy, and homosexual behaviour was unexplored and assumed to be any act of sodomy. There is one quote in the cartoon when Chip looks at himself in the mirror and can hear his inner monologue say (in a smooth voice) "You gay dog, you!". The quote was removed years ago from the cartoon, maybe because Disney didn't want to create a controversy over the boys orientation (though that same cartoon casts enough doubt on that idea). Rescue Rangers didn't give any indication either. If anything, in "Two Chips and a Miss" they accidentally kiss each other but laugh it off (mostly due to the presence of their sweatheart I think), and in "Gadgt Goes Hawaiian" they respond rather disgusted upon making the same mistake again. Never mind, but concerning the entry above the last one, that may have been because Disney's been in enough trouble with evangelical Christians over gay-friendly policies as it is. WAVY 10 18:46, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

You know I remember some gay group claiming Bugs Bunny was gay or LGBT of some sort. In some cartoons he jokingly has a lisp, talks about manicures, or even wears women's clothing. (Those things were generally seen as LGBT for that era) Rush Limbaugh made a big thing of that and it's mentioned at their talk page.--T. Anthony 14:24, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Misleading link

On the article page there a link in the section "Two Chips and a Miss" named Clarice, after the character in the cartoon. Yet, it leads to an article about a reindeer instead. I don't think chipmunks should be confused for reindeer. And I know the character myself. If there is no page for Clarice that is appropriate, I'd suggest that her name remains texts. And to prevent confusion to readers.

There are many bad links on Wikipedia. People take for granted that links would be helpful, instead of checking out if they're really linking to the correct article... 惑乱 分からん 15:48, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

rather than the current

(which, BTW, uses an illogical spelling of the single letter contraction of "and"). Two variants that at least one confirms are

Chip an' Dale

Chip and Dale

which i'll add to the text, along with renaming the page.

Hmm, however Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers's refs are united on that spelling. Perhaps this calls for a decent interval in which justifications could be offered for the status quo.

For what it's worth, most references to the "classic" Chip and Dale cartoons (non-rescue ranger) use the "Chip 'n' Dale" form (including the title cards for the classic animated shorts under the Chip 'n' Dale series). While "Chip 'n Dale" is usually seen when referencing the Rescue Rangers cartoon (as seen in the CDRR logo), the model sheets for Chip and Dale used for Rescue Rangers have "Chip 'n' Dale" printed on them. It seems even Disney isn't always unified on which form is correct. Duckyass 05:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

It probably fits best under Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not a dictionary. This also is the English Wikipedia, there are interwiki links if people want to see a foreign name. Also this material has already been deleted before, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Disney characters' names in various languages Garion96 (talk) 21:53, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
