Excellent!

Um...It would be nice to have that informative box that most major-league team articles have...

[edit] List of Chicago Blackhawks players

There is a List of Chicago Blackhawks players. It would be great if when you added a player to the main article that you could also add him to the list. Thanks! Masterhatch 12 August 2005

[edit] NTBF / Hall of Fame reverts

I've reverted that long string of NTBF additions. The Blackhawks' list runs to the Team Page Format of a couple dozen entries, so anyone added must be considered more significant to Blackhawks' history than some other player listed. With the exception of Tony Amonte, it's not the case with those players. Likewise with Orr as a HOF cite; having played only 26 games with Chicago, he doesn't remotely qualify under the format. RGTraynor 11:01, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Aucoin & Lapointe

I've pointed out at top of article, that Lapointe is serving as captain ,in place of injured Aucoin (shoulder seperation). If anyone agrees/disagrees, by all means revert or keep my recent edit. GoodDay 23:10, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

I've added that Aucoin is still the Blackhawks captain ,although he's injured & out of the lineup. Aucoin wasn't stripped of the captaincy, so I've listed him as a current captain. Lapointe is listed serving as captain in Aucoin's absence from the lineup. These changes were made to match with the Philadelphia Flyers captaincy status. GoodDay 16:51, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Aucoin is no longer listed as being on the IR (see Blackhawks offical website), however he & Lapointe are still listed as current captains. So, I've left Aucoin & Lapointe as captains (til further notice). Does any object? GoodDay 18:32, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Guess what, Lapointe no longer listed as a captain on the Blackhawks offical website. As a result, Aucoin has the 'C' all to himself, made the changes to this article (as well as the 'Adrian Aucoin' and 'Martin Lapointe' articles). GoodDay 00:07, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Aucoin is gone. This should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.78.111.191 (talk) 05:01, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Losing Bobby Hull

I think the story of the Wirtz family losing Bobby Hull to the WHA in 1972 needs to be included in this article. This was a monumental moment for this franchise. That event was the start of the disillusionment of Blackhawk fans that still continues to this day. Lester113

[edit] NPOV?

"In February of 2004, ESPN named the Blackhawks the worst franchise in professional sports [1] much to the non-attention of owner Bill Wirtz who continues to destroy the franchise year after year."

I'm inclined to agree with the statement, but this appears to violate NPOV. Anyone else think so? 128.135.62.64 20:10, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Very much so, and I've changed it. Truth be told, the article has a surprisingly negative tone throughout. The Hawks' Cup championships scarcely rate a mention amidst the lavish descriptions of futility, and I don't quite see it; sure, it sucked to be a Hawks' fan in the Fifties, no doubt, but in the Sixties and Seventies the club went a dozen years winning one Cup and appearing in four Cup finals, and it came within a year of tying the Bruins' record for the longest playoff stretch in professional sports history -- a lot of cities out there would like to suck so badly. RGTraynor 01:58, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Feature article candidacy

While I've already chimed in opposing, I've done some work to at least bring the article to a more acceptable level, breaking up the long history, putting in some surprisingly omitted tidbits and taking out some NPOV violations. The article still needs some serious sourcing ... well, just about ANY sourcing would do. RGTraynor 18:10, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Television Coverage and Media Blackouts

I've heard that the Blackhawk owners prevent easy TV access with media blackouts in Chicago and neighboring areas (unless the games are sold-out). Does anyone have any facts on this? I've lived in the Chicago and lower Illinois areas and I can honestly say that I've never seen a televised Blackhawk game. I even had Comcast Chicago.

Blackhawk owner Bill Wirtz has historically refused to air home games since he figures it affects attendance. For the 2005/06 season, they aired one home game against Pittsburg - a game that was sold out any way given it was the first time for Sid the Kid to play in the United Center. All regular season away games were broadcast on Comcast. The Blackhawks do have a contract with Comcast to air 41 games for the 2006/07 season. There are 41 away games so that's likely what will be broadcast, however, if OLN/Versus decides to broadcast a game at the United Center, then league rules will prohibit a local blackout with Comcast, or if Comcast decides not to broadcast an away game because it is being broadcast on OLN/Versus, then the Blackhawks will owe Comcast one home or preseason game.--Feyer 21:28, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IndianHead Nation

I find it to be unneccesary to have indianhead nation listed as a link.

I visited the site, and it has 5 members at most. It is not established as the leading blackhawks fan site on the web. It is using thsi page for free advertising space, against wikipedia rules --Arusnak 19:28, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Uniforms

the Hawks have arguably the greatest and most respected uninforms in all of american sports. I think a section on the teams uniform history should be added --Arusnak 19:28, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Team captains

I added discriptions to section (By personal memory). Martin & Mikita were co-captains in 1975-76 & first part of 1976-77, then Magnuson became captain. I don't have varifiable sources for this. Therefore I'm calling on Die-hard Blackhawks fans, to confirm this. PS-If anyone disagree's with my edits, then by all means revert, I won't dispute it. GoodDay 18:22, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Martin was captain in 1975-76. Martin & Mikita co-captains in 1976-77, then Keith Magnuson. GoodDay 17:06, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Update somemore, Martin & Mikita were never co-captains. In 1976-77, captaincy went from Martin to Mikita, then from Mikita to Magnuson. Making further 'proper' edits. GoodDay 17:30, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Here come the Hawks

I recently noticed Wikipedia doesnt have a page for the Hawks intro song, "Here Come the Hawks" I would make one, but dot know all the lyrics or history of the song. can anyone help--Arusnak 23:08, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Franchise orgin

The Canucks have their PCHL/WHL orgins; the Oilers, Hurricanes, Avalanche and Coyotes have their WHA orgins. The Blackhawks should have their as well, the Portland Rosebuds of the WCHL. The Blackhawks founding date is before 1926. GoodDay 18:04, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Err, read the article. As the Red Wings did with the Victoria Cougars, the owner of the expansion Black Hawks bought the rights to the Portland players. It is by no means a continuation of the Rosebuds franchise. RGTraynor 20:57, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
You're right, I should read the article first (that's what it's there for). I'm just having a mixed-up kinda day. GoodDay 22:49, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blackhawks captain, 2004-05

Although the 2004-05 season never existed. The Blackhawks franchise did (still) exist from March 2004 to October 2005 (from when Zhamnov was traded away, until Aucouin was appointed). As a result, the Blackhawks captaincy was vacant during the NHL lockout, being during the lockout the captaincy (along with the franchise) still existed. Since the team captains are listed by 'PERSON' not by 'SEASON'- 'No captain, 2004-05' should be listed in the Team captains section. GoodDay 01:46, 10 March 2007 (UTC) :Forget it, do what you want 'Darthflyer'. GoodDay 02:35, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

I've added 2004-05 NHL lockout tag - example: (Lockout) . This helps explain why the Blackhawks captaincy was vacant during that time. GoodDay 16:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Current Roster

Jonathan Toews hasn't attended the Blackhawks 2007 Training Camp (because it occurs in September). It's possible, he could be sent down to the AHL. Until he actually makes the team, I'm keeping him off the 'Current Roster'. GoodDay 16:13, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jerseys, Mascot

NO jersey mention...I realize this topic is posted above, just thought it should be made clear again. For an Original Six franchise, the jerseys must have a section. Also, no mascot mention. Love each other, or perish. ~Auden 00:22, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] David Koci

David Koci is now playing Left Wing, and is not a defenseman —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.180.175.165 (talk) 17:28, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Home Games on TV

My source for that was the chicago sun-times. I did not know where to indicate that.

[edit] The Rocky Era

i think the 21st century section should be broken up into the end of Bill's time as owner, and then a new section for rocky

any thoughts --149.159.76.226 06:24, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Not enough history, really. Though in the future that is an ideal breakpoint. Resolute 17:55, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WWW?

I just want to know what does the WWW patch on the jerseys stand for? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.80.61.143 (talk) 17:48, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

It's Bill Wirtz's initials. Resolute 17:55, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "fan traditions"

Pardon me... but what the dear love of god? Is this serious? This section should be deleted altogether, or at least cut back to whatever encyclopedical value there is (protip: it's not much). Those chants, for an instance, are nothing to be proud of, they're plain silly and uninventive. Just compare with what the European football culture has to offer... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.212.57.73 (talk • contribs)

If you feel the material doesn't belong, or requires modification, feel free to make those changes as you see fit. Resolute 15:10, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

I'd rather like to have this edited by someone who is more involved. (I do have a Blackhawks jersey in my closet, but I'm a Bosnian guy living in Germany and doen't have a clue where this jersey may have come from, and neither does my mother.)

[edit] broadcasters

dan kelly links to the dead and Blues honored broadcaster. is there an entery for his son that we can link to, or make, or should we just break the linage or make it a red link?Childhoodtrauma (talk) 14:11, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
