Description

The ancient site of Chilhowee village, now submerged by Chilhowee Lake along the Little Tennessee River in the Southeastern U.S. Cherokee chiefs Old Tassel and Abraham of Chilhowee were killed here in 1788. According to Cherokee lore, Chilhowee was a favorite haunt of the ogress, Utlunta.
