[edit] Summary
| Description | Toronto, ON, Canada
This little keepsake came from a Developmental Biology class I took at the University of Waterloo in 1998. Embryo was soaked in Methylene Blue to stain the skeleton, then cleansed with a few ethanol washes, and finally treated with Oil of Wintergreen (Methyl Salicylate) to make the surrounding tissues transparent. I actually failed to produce the desired result in this experiment, since I didn't cut off enough of the limb bud to affect bone development, but I kept the sample anyways because it makes a fabulously morbid desk ornament. Photograph was taken with a Canon Powershot A550 in macro mode, backlit by an LCD computer monitor. |
