The Children's Learning Center was founded in 1971 by behavioral psychologist Dr. Laura Phillips, and located in Alameda, California since 1984, Children's Learning Center was created to provide an alternative placement for children whose educational needs were not met in public schools. After becoming a state-certified, non-public school, CLC began working collaboratively with the public school districts to serve their more complex students. Though continuously expanding services, CLC has remained small, ensuring quality programs and a nurturing environment.
