Childbirth positions

The term Childbirth Positions refers to the various physical postures the pregnant mother may assume during the process of Childbirth. It may also be referred to as Delivery Positions or Labor Positions
Other than the traditional Lithotomy position used commonly by Obstetricians , there are several alternate birthing positions that have been successfully used by midwives and traditional birth-attendants, the world over.
Scientifically robust Systematic reviews are being done only recently on the benefits and dangers of various alternate childbirth positions and Evidence based practice suggests that non-lithotomy positions may actually be more conducive for the normal progress of Labour, for various reasons (see section below for list of some of the reasons). Subsequently, increasing numbers of practitioners of modern medicine are gradually getting used to the idea / practice of non-lithotomy
