Chifra (woreda)

Chifra is one of the 29 woredas in the Afar Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Administrative Zone 1, Chifra is located near the base of the eastern escarpment of the Ethiopian highlands and bordered on the south by Mille, on the west by the Oromia Region, on the north by the Administrative Zone 4, and on the east by Dubti. The major town in Chifra is Chifra.

The highest peak in Chifra is Mount Groppo (900 meters).

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 90,896, of whom 39,706 were males and 51,190 were females; 1,209 or 1.33% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 14.9%. Information is not available for the area of Chifra, so its density cannot be calculated.[1]
