The castle of Chiavari is an ancient fortification stated in the city of Chiavari, in Tigullio's Gulf, in the Genoa's province.
[edit] History
Castle was build between 1746 and 1147, one of the first erected in Tigullio's gulf area, over a hill dominating and defending a seafaring village, called Clavai, today Chiavari.
In the 1172 was besieged by Opizzino Spinola, while in 1278 falled in Moruello and Alberto Fieschi hands, allied for the conquest of the castle, but just for eight days.
During the first half of XIV century should be more times rebuilded because of violence battles between parties guelfe and ghibelline; in this century the village was further on fortified thanks to presence of a heavy surrounding wall accessible through seven doors and defended by fourteen towers. Now a day is quite easy to see the ruins of the ancients wall of the ancients “Village of Chiavari” of moyen-age.
