[edit] Wot, no messages?

I see from your edits you are probably connected with Leicester Grammar in some way.

Thanks for your edits to the school GB infobox - I shall replicate your efforts should I wish to modify info boxes myself.

I think there might be opposition to fax nos and phone nos (Wikipedia is not a directory etc) but as they are there it seems to me that the Postcode is a significant omission. (Postcode is likely to be fixed unlike phone/fax.) -- roundhouse 13:59, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

I've created Category:Old Leicestrians and populated it with the 2 alumni you gave. It would be nice if you could find some more but then the school is quite young. (It's quite likely to be renamed Alumni of Leicester Grammar at some point.) -- roundhouse 20:49, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
I see there is an OFSTED row so ignore that. -- roundhouse 14:21, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Infobox GB school

Hi,

you have removed the wikilinks from the above template for locations. This means that they have now been removed from over 100 articles. Also many of the articles now display the dab links that have been inserted to point to the correct location article and is not very user friendly.

If you had read the talk page, you would have spotted the problem as I have already reinstered them after the last removal.

OK if you wish to go round all of the articles correcting them then feel free, else can they be reinserted into the template?

Thanks

Keith D 21:36, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick response. I have had a few days away and am catching up on things that have happened since I was last logged in and seem lots on this template.
If you want to get the list of articles that use the template then view the template page and click on the "What links here" entry in the toolbox in the left hand menu (just below the search box).

Hi, thanks for that. I did go round renaming after the template was moved and corrected quite a bit in the process. If you are going round them all may be now is the time to replace the Country entry with the appropraite country (England, Scotland or Wales) rather then UK. Any thoughts?
Keith D 10:41, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Reducing templates was an idea when I came in here and we started with a few small tweeks to align this template, then renamed the template in line with other templates. Now that a lot of changes have been made we can probably move forward on this one.
I do not think there is a procedure for merging templates. What seems to happen, I think Infobox_school4 was the first followed by Infobox_school2, is to mark the old template as depreciated to warn new users to use another template. But I think that is as far as it got.
I would go for a template at a time, depreciate it and then replace existing uses by the new template, once agreement has been reached on the move. The first one I would think could easily be moved now is Template:Infobox College GB as the change to Principal can be made using the new head_label field. I would think the colour change and minor changes to Contact Information would not upset anyone.
A more difficult task is to get all of the UK education places using the UK templates in the first place. May of them use the global versions or a hand crafted version directly in the article.
There was some talk on the subject at either the schools or the education wikiprojects, but that related to global templates not really to the UK specific ones. Which is probably where you need to raise the subject.

I had a go at introducing a (minimal) version of the infobox at a school here. I got several blank lines at the top (so I reverted) and also the location rows seem to give 3 lines whether I want them or not. Any advice? Note that the (nice) OFSTED link gives the full address. Occuli 09:25, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
On further inspection the infobox link (King Ecgbert School) to OFSTED gives a blank page - it's the link in the external links section that gives the nice page. Maybe the OFSTED way of linking to a page has changed. Occuli 13:45, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Had a quick look at this problem and it looks like it stems from fixing the providerCategoryID parameter in the URL within the template. I cannot work out how this number is generated on the Ofsted site. May be we should switch the template to using the direct method as per the link refered to above. This would need some testing with a few articles that use the facility just to see if it is as simple as that. Keith D 14:26, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
I did a search for 'ofsted number' and only got 17 pages (and the 5 or 6 I looked at didn't use this template). Encouraged by this I fiddled with the template, which now at least works for King Ecgbert School. Occuli 17:21, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the proposal. May be you could add a note at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Education to alert them to the proposal and point them to the schools talk page. Not so sure about the removal of the header colour though, it looks a bit bland now. Keith D 13:59, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
I have added the infobox to a number of Enfield schools, but the template keeps changing. Will it become fairly stable soon? I added coordinates to most of them, but this label has been removed. What should I replace it with? Thank you for your work on this template - the articles look better and are more complete. Coyets 19:22, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
I went to Southgate School thinking I would fix it for Coyets but find that it seems to be fine and still showing coords (using coord). So I am now baffled as I would have thought coords (using coord) would disappear. The instructions for the new way of entering coordinates are at Template:Infobox GB school#Usage under latitude, longitude. -- roundhouse 20:14, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
So does this mean the entries under coordinates (e.g. Southgate School) should be converted to the format used by longitude and latitude (dd.mmmm) and entered there? Coyets 08:28, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes - Chg says he will go round converting them this w/e (I trust he has counted them carefully or has a lot of time). The dd.mmmm values can be seen if you click the coords on Southgate School, if you wish to have a go yourself. (The dms line in the new version of the template will give the default display in DMS, if this is your preference.) -- roundhouse 09:13, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Are you sure your last tweek is OK. All I get is "Coordinates: Expression error: Unrecognised word "expression"°Expression error: Unrecognised word "expression"′Expression error: Unrecognised word "expression"″Expression error: Unrecognised punctuation character "{" Expression error: Unrecognised word "expression"°Expression error: Unrecognised word "expression"′Expression error: Unrecognised word "expression"″Expression error: Unrecognised punctuation character "{" / {{{latitude}}}, {{{longitude}}}" in the header of the template. Keith D 21:41, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Could be the browser or the skin used that is causing the problem. I am using Firefix 1.5 with default skin. Keith D 22:02, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Just had a look and I get the same problem with IE6 at work.
Thanks for the suggestion about the school. I left that one for now, I was looking at working round the East Riding of Yorkshire schools to give them an infobox, but got deviated onto something else.

[edit] Coord/Templates

There's a discussion here about coord in templates which might decide against using latitude and longitude so perhaps it would be best to wait for it to be decided before doing any more work on lat and long. -- roundhouse 19:43, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College Logo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College Logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Excellent job you're doing on the article! I disagree with your removal of the plot subheadings, however. I have started a discussion about it on the talk page, as I figure I don't want to just readd them - better to have the article be the way that most people feel is right. So I'd love for you to participate in that discussion, of course. You can find it here. Lilac Soul 09:19, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] UK Schools Infobox merger

Thanks for the badge. I'm very much up for standardisation and thought it needed doing. Thanks again, CR7 14:24, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Coords

Leicester Grammar School seems to be set to show coords in DMS by default (via the infobox). However when I view it in Opera (either logged in or logged out), I get a decimal display. (It might well have been you who added the dms line.) -- roundhouse0 15:21, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Coord can now be named wherever it is - see eg Sheffield Cathedral. A better example is Manchester Ship Canal with several locations named. I haven't yet discovered whether the preference is to put coords in or outside infoboxes - outside seems more flexible to me. (LGS does now show in DMS format using Opera.) -- roundhouse0 22:03, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Alrighty, didn't know that. In that case it does seem much more logical to have them outside. chgallen 22:06, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
It is recent - A Mabbett opposed it on arcane grounds beyond the grasp of ordinary mortals but he has now been banned for 12 months. -- roundhouse0 22:18, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:NC(S) input

Hello, as you might have noticed I have brought up a new proposal for a guideline on school naming conventions. However, there has been very little input for it to go anywhere. I remember you were involved in the last proposal, so I would appreciate your input once again at WT:NC(S) if possible. Thanks. Camaron1 | Chris 11:35, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:KES logo.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:KES logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 09:12, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
