Chris Bosh

I am sorry for fighting against you over a little part of the article. I was just too heated. But, now that I'm calmed, can we discuss this and solve this dispute in a reasonable manner. I want to hear your opinions to and please reply it in my talk page. By the first time I red the article, I thought that Bosh improved his stats a lot such as from 15ppg to 22.6ppg. But then I noticed he only improved from 22.5ppg to 22.6ppg. The same idea also applies to rpg and apg. He only improved from 9.2rpg to 10.7rpg and I thought from 5rpg to 10.7 rpg. He also only improved 0.1apg and I thought maybe 3apg. It gives misleading to the reader like me. My edit, which says Bosh led the Raptors to win their first division title has no misleading and is better than yours. Please fell free to express your opinions about this on MY talk page. So, let's discuss this properly and see each others opinion. Brave warrior 11:25, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Reply please

Please reply want you want to say on my talk page. I want to hear your opinions whether you agree with me or not. Thank you. Brave warrior 14:04, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I am rather busy over the weekend so allow me some time before I reply. Chensiyuan 16:25, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Now that you have time, can you please reply your opinions on Chris Bosh's article. I really want to solve this dispute in a reasonable manner. Brave warrior 15:04, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I understand. You are right. But, he actually dropped 0.1apg accourding to his profile on NBA.com, http://www.nba.com/playerfile/chris_bosh/career_stats.html. Therefore, your edit is not true because assist is one of the major statistical category and my edit should be used in the article. Brave warrior 00:18, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Thierry Henry

In case you don't realise your first edit is preserved. The second edit was undone because it contains original research on your part -- no matter how real the possibility is of him being significantly involved in Barca's setpiece play. I.e., you are speculating. WP is crystal clear on these two policies. It's fine if you're not acquainted with all the WP policies, but it is a simple duty to see what exactly has been edited away and what has been preserved, more so when the edit changes/summary fully exhibits such information. Chensiyuan 23:23, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Earl Strom

Hi Chensiyuan, I just wanted to let you know that I'm just about done with the Earl Strom bio and is ready for a second pair of eyes to review. It still needs some cleanup to reach GA, but it should be able to get there with a little effort. Thanks! RyguyMN 00:43, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Red Auerbach

Thanks for the message of encouragement you sent a while ago, and FYI, I just kicked up Red Auerbach a notch. —Onomatopoeia 07:10, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, great job as usual. —Onomatopoeia 08:09, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
I concur. You helped bring the article up to GA-compliance in a hurry, following Onomatopoeia's rewrite. Myasuda 18:26, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Michael Owen

Please see [1]. According to this, you DID do this edit which I am talking about. Jackrm 01:28, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Is that your evidence? It shows nothing, by the way. It does not demonstrate who performed the edit, which is discoverable by a completely different process. This is then the correct link to look at. Which clearly and irrefutably shows, the vandalism edit was performed by the said anon. Which also clearly and irrefutably shows, you were wrong on all counts. Chensiyuan 01:33, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps you can see why a new user such as myself would make this mistake, as it shows the edit containing "..Mr.P, had already scored 1000 goals.." to be your edit. It was an honest mistake of me thinking since this is your edit, this text would be added by you. I have learnt a valuable lesson from this. I would like to give my sincere appologies, and award you a barnstar. This is for teaching me a valuable lesson from further embarrasing myself and to say sorry. I also hope you understand i was only trying to help! And this comes at a time in my life where i have alot going on which can be distracting. If you see my other edits, you will see mistakes like this are rare, and that most of my edits are constructive. Jackrm 01:43, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Thankyou very much. It is very helpful to receive my first barnstar! Thankyou for your advice, and sorry for the mis-understanding. Jackrm 01:50, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
This may sound off topic, and feel free to say no, but do you have any means of contact such as MSN Messenger which i may contact you with? It would be great to talk to a fellow wikipedia editor who edits articles similar to my own. If so, my MSN adress is ja1ck@hotmail.com. Thankyou again. Jackrm 01:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I'd add you. Chensiyuan 07:27, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Bob Cousy

Hi there, I also just saw the "fail", and I was not so much surprised by the "no" (Blnguyen is a tough cookie) but of the speed that the new GAC process has got now. I remember waiting 40 days before e.g. Oscar Robertson was reviewed. Well, I guess we just tick off his points one by one, and then re-add Bob Cousy to the GAC process again. There are always 2nd, 3rd and 17th attempts. Onomatopoeia 08:12, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Earl Strom

Hey Chensiyuan, thanks for the comments. I've taken a break from editing the Earl Strom article for a while since I just got burnt out with all the edits. I'm hoping to get back into working on it soon. Right now I turned my attention to the whole Tim Donaghy situation. RyguyMN 23:48, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Thierry Henry

Why did you delete my Henry addition? I want to know your criteria on why you did? It would be helpful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Garrysantos (talkcontribs) 25 July 2007, 01:30

Hi, consider reading WP:NOT#INFO. While you're there, you'd find other related policies/guidelines. I know it's always exciting to add new (and news) content to an article. But you'd come to see that at bottom, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Yes it is not a paper encyclopedia, but try imagining adding Henry's goal against Dundee in an encyclopedia entry. You see what I'm getting at? Don't be discouraged however -- Wikipedia remains firmly committed to consensus building, and if other editors agree that Henry's goal should be included, then it will stay. Otherwise, from my own experience it's a really trivial piece of information at worst, and too much detail at best. Chensiyuan 01:40, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

You're right man. I feel you. Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it :)

Manu Ginobili

I have added my 2 cents, it is a very decent article at least. Maybe the jersey numbers and title list could use some referencing, though, but it is a soon-to-be GAC for sure. —Onomatopoeia 08:04, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Mendy Rudolph

Hi! I've been working on this Mendy Rudolph bio while trying to figure out what to do with the Earl Strom one. Would you mind looking this bio over? I think this one is GA-ready and will use this as a guide for the Strom one. It's not as thorough as Strom, which has made this one a bit easier to manage. Thanks. RyguyMN 04:49, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your review Chensiyuan, I'll see what I can do to correct some of the issues you raise. There might be more information published once the Hall of Fame ceremony happens next month. RyguyMN 00:05, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

You sure?

I was thinking about asking you if you want an WP:RFA as a long-standing editor who is excellent in sports topivs. But then I notice that you don't want to be admin userbox on your talk page. If you ever change your mind, just let me know and I will be proud to nominate you. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 06:41, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, it's a first for me to have someone suggest RFA. It's very flattering. However, I do not think I possess the correct personality traits to be an admin! Looking forward to more collaborations on sports articles in future. Chensiyuan 07:01, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Those two edits I made was not in bad faith. I made this edit because I read Henry was traded but then I reverted my own edit because I read my information was already on there but just accidently didn't erase the word "on". Hi there!

Just noticed your edits of the MOS. We need more reviewers in the WP:FAC and WP:FAR rooms to stop the promotion of articles with substandard writing. It's a virtual tumult at the moment, and there are never enough copy-edit-type reviewers to "crack the whip". So you'd be welcome there if you had time to drop in. Tony 10:49, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, sure thing. Chensiyuan 10:50, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Tim Duncan

Hi there, I just skimmed through the TD article and found following points to address before making this a FAC:

  • The plantar fasciitis thingie of 2006 is unsourced (but well known)
  • The foot injury which hampered him in 2005 NBA Finals is unsourced (he irocinally picked it up against the Pistons in the regular season, IIRC)
  • Certain individual games have to be sourced, like his almost-quadruple double in the 2003 NBA Finals, the Game 7 loss in the 2006 WCF Semifinal series, his struggles in the Olympics ezc. (TonyTheTiger is a zealot on this)

But mostly, the article is pretty FAC-worthy. —Onomatopoeia 19:11, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Never mind that foot thingie, nobody really needs it. I think just a small copyedit, and then we wait for the peer review (at least for the bot), and then we jump into FAC action. —Onomatopoeia 14:16, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

About opinion on Crouch, from Portugal

My fellow Chensiyuan: VASCO from PORTUGAL, user nº217.129.69.28.

What i meant previously was: you were a bit aggressive and cold in your sentence ("THIS IS AN ENCYCLOPEDIA, TAKE IT ELSEWHERE."). Of course i know POV has no place in any remotely serious piece of article, and so that is why i posted some thoughts in the DISCUSSION page, i did NOTHING to the article that would force serious contributors such as yourself to revert all the nonsense that i see is ever present in some "contributions"; i myself have reverted some vandalism.

HOPE NO BAD FEELING WILL ARISE, JUST TRYING TO COMMUNICATE, VASCO AMARAL from PORTUGAL

Corrections

Mr. Chensiyuan,

I don't want to cause anyone trouble with anything they haven't done, so here is my correct user number, i got a number wrong the other time, the right one is 217.129.67.28.

GREETINGS FROM PORTUGAL, VASCO AMARAL

Hi Vasco, no ill feelings at all. You would see from several Wikipedia policies that generally, talkpages are not meant to be forums. Quite frankly you may exercise your free speech and say whatever you want on talkpages and you would seldom be told you can't, but the point remains. If I sounded cold, I think I was but I hope that would not deter you from making valuable contributions to WP in the future. Chensiyuan 23:28, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Greetings galore!

Hi there Chensiyuan, VASCO speaking,

thank you very much for understanding my point of view, i see yours too, WIKIPEDIA is no place for POV, even tough i posted it on discussion, i guess i went a little too far.

Greetings and have a nice weekend, VASCO AMARAL, PORTUGAL

I saw your comment on the PR. Thank you for the praise. Personally I don't think it's quite there yet and with the start of a new season and the rumors of him playing for England next week I'm going to wait anyway. But are you suggesting it is ready to be a GAC or even a FAC? Buc 05:57, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, thx for your words an Manu, and I want to say that TD is now a FAC. Actually I tried to wait for the peer review, but as the backlog on the peer review page is HUGE atm, I rather went ahead now. —Onomatopoeia 13:18, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Basketball GA drive

As Director of WP:CHICAGO, I would be very interested in improving any player who was a multiple time All-star who spent the majority of his All-Star years with the Chicago Bulls. If you find any such players whose articles are WP:DYK eligible (less than 1500 characters) these articles are the type that truly could use the help of WP:CHICOTW. Let me know if you are familiar with any such articles. I guess the same would be true of women's basketball players for teams such as the Chicago Sky or Chicago Condors. --TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 13:48, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

I just dropped lines on the talk page and on Wikipedia:Editor review/OhanaUnited, and i find it completely ludicrous as well. Portobello Road Market

Hi, I thought the image you removed (closeup of a stall) was appropriate for the article. From the existing images, one can't really see what an example of a stall is like. Would appreciate if you could reply at my talkpage, thanks. Chensiyuan 01:14, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

There is no firm guidance on the use of images in Wiki - there are bits of advice here and there, such as Wikipedia:Guide_to_layout#Images, but one the whole it does come down to common sense. The article is Portobello Road, with a section on Portobello Market. The section on the market only has enough space for one image - of the two available I selected the general view as it gave a decent picture of the market in situ, and had some sense that a person could identify it as Portobello. The other image was a close of a stall and had no unique features - that could be any market stall. Placing another image of the market in the article would be inappropriate - there are other images of Portobello that could be used - a fair use image of Portobello Farm would be interesting, or a map from 1841, a picture of the Electric Cinema, a book shop - that sort of thing. That was my thinking. Regards SilkTork *** SilkyTalk 07:36, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi there Chensiyuan, I am happy to say that I just got hold of a copy of Slam Duncan by Kevin Kiernan, a Tim Duncan bio which perfectly meets WP:RS. I'll add info to the TD article as I read through this book. —Onomatopoeia 15:32, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I know you are not a Mavs fan but...

Hey congrats on getting Tim Duncan to FA, I was wondering if you might be interested in helping me raise José Juan Barea to GA, the article was nominated and failed mostly because it has prose issues and the image has a dubious source, I have referenced everything relevant in it but my prose cleaning skills aren't always the best, interested? - Caribbean~H.Q. 08:21, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello. I'm trying to get the Joey Barton article to FA standard and I feel it must be quite close to being good enough for candidacy. Steve Nash

Please add this citation next to Steve Nash's height in the vitals inset: http://www.charlierose.com/shows/2007/08/27/2/a-conversation-with-basketball-professional-steve-nash I tried to add it myself but kept getting syntax errors. 4.249.114.212 23:03, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

You have to explain why his claim negates the statistic on nba.com though. Ironic, I know, that he would probably know best, but well. I think an acceptable middle ground is including a sentence about how he has stated in an interview that he is 6'1" although nba.com reports him as 6'3". Chensiyuan 00:55, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
The link is used several times in the article. It's ref #1. You'd find that sites like basketball-reference, espn and yahoo report 6'3" too. Of course one can make the case that these sites simply followed nba.com, but that may not be justified easily. Moreover height discrepancies are always difficult to resolve; disputes over them have taken place in other NBA articles. At the end of the day if there are competing sources over a significant point, it can be reflected in the prose. Otherwise, it's much ado about nothing. Chensiyuan 00:44, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
No you are really clutching at straws here aren't you. You can easily check if that IP is me, just ask an admin. But when you do find out the answer, I expect an unqualified apology. As to why I should add the link on your behalf, no I'm not obligated to so please go disturb someone else. And speaking of due diligence if you would actually bother to find out what sort of changes I make to the Nash article, it would dawn upon you that I have far better things to do than be concerned about his height. By the way, I hope you realise the onus to answer the question you pose does not rest squarely upon my shoulders; I have offered the compromise solution which you presumptuously assume I would implement on your behalf, so I would advise you to contribute meaningfully to Wikipedia before coming to my talkpage armed with an array of libelous comments.
