[edit] Scouts

We used to make money via car washes, then pile into cars and drive up to the National park nearby to Cherokee, and camp out. Quite a drive from Roanoke, Ala.

Wonderful broadleaf forest about with its normal forest smells during rain. And as we were rained out on one of these trips, we retired to the restrooms the park provided to play penny antie poker and smoke cigars. What we scouts did on occasion.

And climbed to the top of the mountain just across the road and on deciding to get back quickly walked down the nearly drop off side of the mountain vs the appalachian trail to the top. Then popping out across from the park where there was no bridge across the ice cold creek we walked across it , with creeks water as cold as ice.

And later drove back home via Gatlinburg , which then had no stores and was a wide spot in the highway ... ... Thanksgiving 1959 ... Butch, Jimmy, Lamar, Doug, Richard ? 20-25 boy scout gamblers ... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.60.108.97 (talk) 13:17, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
