Chess is played all over the world and is organised in different chess federations. These are are organised on a national, supranational and international level. FIDE, the Fédération Internationale des Échecs was established in 1924 and most national chess federations are now part of FIDE.

The table below lists the different national chess federations and their national championship. The number of grandmasters and FIDE rated players are also indicated. Some countries such as Chile and Syria are temporarily excluded from FIDE because of overdue fees.
