Chess Mates is a computer software program, designed to teach the basics of Chess. Its unique way to connect to children, combined with its comic humor and detailed animation make it an easy way for young learners to learn the building blocks for becoming a successful chess player.

Chess Mates was developed by Stepping Stone and published by Brainstorm (Division), a video game publisher, founded in the early 90's, that went out of business in the late 90's. Many schools were needed to make this game a success, including Loma Vista Elementary School, as well as W. R Nelson School and Sycamore Elementary School.

Since this game released very few copies, it is known by few people. However, there have been very few who have turned their noses at the chess teaching software.

This game is Compatible with Windows 95, Windows 3.1, and Macintosh. This game is not compatible with later models of Windows or IMac's. Many have been able to get it running with the use of internet information. Brainstorm, which is currently out of business, is unable to assist with the program.
