Chehel Sotun, meaning "forty columns" in Persian, is a building fronted by twenty wooden columns, with the reflections in the adjacent pool providing another twenty columns. Originally built by the king Shah Abbas II for entertainment and receptions, today it is a museum containing friezes depicting Safavid life and objects from the period.
