"Parallel Cinema"

As of yet, there is no Wikipedia entry for 'Parallel Cinema,' and I was wondering if an Indian film aficionado or historian could contribute something on this movement. In doing some editing on Charulata, I encountered the term (which I've run across before), and think it's relevant enough to leave in, but someone more qualified than I should also try to shed some light upon the term. [edit] Style

Charulata belongs to the Indian tradition of the parallel cinema, and Ray has cited the influence of French New Wave directors such as François Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard during its making.[citation needed]

[edit] Responses

Many critics and commentators consider Charulata to be Ray's greatest achievement. Ray himself remarked that it had the "least flaws" of all his movies, and that the character of Charulata was his favorite among his many films.[citation needed]
