Etymology

"It takes its name from the French word for 'plain' as the land here is very flat." I assume this is referring to the word champagne, but that does not mean plain--it is an old form of campagne, countryside. Since this statement is not supported by a reference anyway, I am going to investigate the etymology a bit more, unless someone else knows for sure.--Mwillia9 00:58, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
