[edit] Fair use for Red triangle (Channel 4)
The image "Channel4 red triangle.jpg" is originally copyright, but two editors feel it is covered by fair use because:
- It is a very low resolution mock-up
- The item in question has negligible, if any, commercial value (and never had any) - it is a content warning message. As such its inclusion in this article cannot reasonably be held to deprive the copyright holder of any income.
- The image is significant because it holds a notable and newsworthy place in the history of British television censorship. As such it was used in news broadcasts from its publication in 1987, and has continued to be used in similar contexts since.
- The image is important to the context of the article Red triangle (Channel 4), which discusses the image
This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted television program or station ID. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. For more information, see Wikipedia:Non-free content. |
