Charlie "the Gasman" Warren (b. Charles George Thornton Warren 7 Sept 1983) is a popular and much-revered DJ/promoter, often credited with having reinvigorated the 'indie/electro' movement in his adopted city of Bristol, England. His main achievements include the establishment of the internationally-acclaimed club night 'Entertainment!' (inspired by the album name of post-punk band Gang of Four), and his first charity fundraising event, 'Rwandance 2007', to assist in raising money and awareness for his development project in Rwanda. He is currently living in Manila, the Philippines.
[edit] Early Life
Charlie was born in south-west London on September 7 1983. Although christened Church of England, religion has never played a significant part in his life, apart from the infamous 'Glade Trip 2006' (see below).
[edit] DJ Career
Inspired by the nu-rave ideals of DJs such as Erol Alkan and Simian Mobile Disco whilst simultaneously unimpressed with the Bristol underground Electro scene, in November 2005 Charlie and his friend Tom "Barnes" Barnes set it upon themselves to revolutionise the genre. Following in the footsteps of Bristol 'Trip Hop' legends Massive Attack and Portishead, they began their first club night at the Mandrake Club on November 4th 2005. The night went down as a seminal turning point in the history of Bristol's nightlife, and 'Entertainment!' rose to become one of the city's most well-known regular events.
However, in August 2006, Warren was stunned by the sudden departure of Barnes from the 'Entertainment!' fold.
