Charles and Taylor is an American Christian music duo. The teen singers and siblings have released one album which was nominated for a Dove Award in 2006 in the "Urban Gospel Album" category[1].

Before Charles was born, his life was threatened when he breathed in amniotic fluid. As the doctors worked quickly to save him they heard baby Charles begin to cry while still in the womb. Taylor’s birth was nothing short of a miracle as well when she was born one month premature with the umbilical cord wrapped tightly around her neck. Through this, Charles and Taylor have quickly come to understand that God does indeed have a purpose and plan for your life and nothing the enemy does can prevent it, no matter how hard he might try.

“God has called us to speak to everyone regardless of age and color,” Charles says, “Our music is for the young and the old, the believers and unbelievers. God has given us our talents and testimonies so that we can minister to everyone we meet.”

Lessons learned… In their young music careers they have learned that ministry, though rewarding, is hard work. They are driven by their love for music, but even more so by their desire to be a positive influence to their peers -- changing a generation through spreading the gospel and sharing their testimonies.

Most recently, they have signed with the Integrity Gospel label and will release their self-titled debut, Charles & Taylor, in July of 2005. They also have been asked to be the new spokespeople for World Vision, giving a young face to the organization that will, in turn, help excite young people about missions.[1]

Musical beginnings…

Being raised in the church not only gave Charles and Taylor a musical outlet through the choir and the praise team, but also provided the prayer and support that allowed their ministry to blossom at such a young age. When Charles was only 6 and Taylor only 4, they began a local nursing home ministry that lasted more than three years. "They love to sing and to share the love of Jesus with people," says Swiney. "They've always had a real mature attitude about ministry. They understand that it's hard work, but they enjoy it. It's just always been a part of who they are." As Charles & Taylor grew, so did their vocal skills and their confidence. Today, they both sing with their church's praise team and perform at youth events and conferences around the country. In addition to sharing through song, Charles often speaks and preaches to fellow teens.

Word of their spiritual maturity and determination spread, leading to opportunities for Charles & Taylor to open for leading gospel acts such as Mary Mary, Yolanda Adams and Vickie Winans. Their sincere love for God and heart for ministry caught the eye of Integrity Gospel General Manager Jackie Patillo. "When I first heard Charles and Taylor, I was blown away by their huge vocal talent. But I was even more impressed by their mature hearts for God and their strong sense of calling and purpose in ministry."

The Charles & Taylor CD features 10 tracks produced by the acclaimed Trevon Potts (Bebe Winans, Trinitee 5:7, Monica and Christina Aguilera), who either wrote or co-wrote most of the material. The songs range from the energetic "I'm Not Ashamed," declaring what Christ has done in their lives, to their remix of "Go Tell It On The Mountain" and a love song for their mother that is simply called "Mama's Song."

"Our music is fun and purposeful and we know the obstacles and challenges young Christians face today," says Charles. "As ambassadors for Christ, our mission is to win souls for the Kingdom. We just like to do it with intense lyrics, hot tracks and crazy beats."

Charles & Taylor will be distributed to Christian retail stores by Provident-Integrity Distribution and to general market retail outlets by Epic/Sony-BMG. The CD will also be available at www.integritymedia.com. [2]

Beyond their church and nursing home ministry, their performances include the National Anthem spots at the Atlanta Braves baseball and Atlanta Hawks basketball games, plus opening for artists such as Yolanda Adams, Vickie Winans, The Temptations and Mary Mary. “The community around us has always been encouraging and we’ve been blessed with so many opportunities to perform with people we truly admire,” Taylor says. The two signed with the record label Integrity Gospel and released their self-titled debut album in July of 2005. [2]. They were nominated for the Atlanta Choice Awards in 2005 and 2006 and a Dove Award in 2006.
