Charles Leaming Tutt Jr. is a well known figure in the history of Colorado Springs. He and his father's friend, Spencer Penrose, were the co-owners of the famous and exclusive Broadmoor Hotel. When Penrose died, childless, Charles and his sons gained full ownership of the well known resort. [1]
In the 1950's, Charles bought seven original Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec prints in New York, which he hung in the Broadmoor Tavern. Recently, his grandson, Thayer Tutt Jr., moved them to a safer location. [2]
From 1975 to 1976, Charles served as the president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. [3]
Aside from his contributions to other Colorado Springs landmarks, Charles was a trustee of Colorado College, and the school's Tutt Library is named after him. [4] In 1959, the house he had lived in with his parents was donated to the school, and it is now known as the Tutt Alumni House. [5]
