Charles Kwablan Akonnor (known as Charlie; born March 12, 1974 in Accra, Ghana) is a former Ghanaian international footballer.

Akonnor first came to Germany in 1993 along with friend and national teammate Sammy Kuffour. Having played for six years as a youngster for Fortuna Köln, he switched in 1998 to VfL Wolfsburg. He quickly developed in the team as a resourceful player with several good games to his credit, and in 2001/02 he was given the role of captain for Vfl Wolfsburg. However, at the start of the following season, he was injured, a knee problem which required an operation in 2003. In 2004 he moved to SpVgg Unterhaching. In 2005 he moved to Denmark to play with AC Horsens and has contributed tremendously to the team's current success.[citation needed]

Akonnor was the captain of the Black Stars following Abedi Pele.
