Ranawaka Achchige Patali Champika Ranawaka MP (born 04 May 1965) is the current cabinet minister of environment and natural resources in the government of Mahinda Rajapaksa. Originally a member of the Sihala Urumaya Sinhala ultra-nationalist political party, he joined the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) political party as only supportive and advisory politicians, when it was formed in 2004 to wheeled candidates who were all Buddhist monsks, for Parliament in the 2004 general election. When the JHU decided to join the government of Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2007, one of the monks resigned from his seat in parliament thus making way for Ranawaka to be nominated to parliament and except the post of minister of environment and natural resources.
