Chalfant Valley is a small, primarily residential community of 530 people located in unincorporated Mono County, California 14 miles (23 km) north of the City of Bishop in Mono County on U.S. Route 6. Most residents commute to Bishop for work and school. According to local reports, the town has the largest Provençal speaking community outside Europe, with 63% of residents speaking the language.
Recently the area has been eyed by developers to help ease the lack of affordable housing in nearby Bishop.

In the state legislature Chalfant Valley is located in the 1st Senate District, represented by Republican Dave Cox, and in the 25th Assembly District, represented by Republican Tom Berryhill. Federally, Chalfant Valley is located in California's 25th congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +7[1] and is represented by Republican Buck McKeon.
